American Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe is back again for the 2012 season and he hopes you enjoyed last season because you’re about to get a whole lot more of it.
When asked for ideas on what would be different for the Idol 2012 season Lythgoe explained not to expect any major changes. Sounds like they’ve find their groove and their going to stick to letting hopefuls do their own thing each week:
“I think we made a lot of tweaks last year,” Lythgoe said. “I’m not sure that we want to make too many more tweaks this year.”
“The biggest change we made last year was to say, `OK, if you’re a country singer you can sing any of these genres in your country style,’” Lythgoe said. “`We’re not going to force you to do rock or anything you can’t do. You can take a Michael Jackson song and turn it country.’”
After all the talk last preseason about not doing themes, we still saw theme after theme and singers trying new niches. I guess it just sounds good to repeat yourself even if it doesn’t mean anything.
Nigel goes on to credit season 10′s freestyle approach to allowing singers like Haley, Casey, Scotty, and Lauren get so far in the competition, an achievement he says might not have happened without those changes.

Ryan Seacrest has pure caffeine running through his veins. His blood was removed years ago and replaced with a constant supply of energy. It’s the only way to explain the man who knows no limits to his work schedule. Now he may be adding one more ball to the juggling mix:
NBCUniversal is pursuing “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest as a possible successor to Matt Lauer on the “Today” show, if Mr. Lauer vacates his co-anchor seat next year, said people close to the company.
To be sure, the talks are preliminary and could fall apart at any time. They also may be in part a negotiating tactic for NBC executives, who need a strong backup plan in case Mr. Lauer leaves the show. Mr. Seacrest is one of NBC’s top replacement choices, according to people familiar with the matter.
A move like this would be a huge boost to Seacrest in a move from E! News to daily NBC morning flagship. But what about his Idol duties? Well The Today Show records in New York. American Idol records in Los Angeles. Unless Ryan wants to fly back and forth between coasts each night during the live portion of the season this would be a problem. Idol could always relocate filming to New York and keep their man in his hosting gig. It wouldn’t be unheard of, but still tough.
Permalink Reply by needlesstosay on December 30, 2011 at 12:50am Was that an engagement ring on the finger of Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler‘s longtime girlfriend, Erin Brady, when the couple was photographed on Christmas day? According to celebrity news site TMZ, it was indeed!
The 63-year-old frontman and his 38-year-old girlfriend were photographed in Maui, Hawaii, on Christmas with Brady sporting a ring on her wedding ring finger with a massive diamond. Check out the pictures of the happy couple on vacation here. They are pictured above arriving at the 2008 American Music Awards.
It would be the third marriage for Tyler, who tied the knot to model Cyrinda Foxe in 1978 and wed clothing designer Teresa Barrick in 1988. He has been dating Brady since 2006.
It’s not known when Tyler proposed — either before heading to Hawaii or during the tropical vacation. Regardless, we wish the couple the best of luck in their new life together!

Steven Tyler of Aerosmith is as known for his fashion sense as he is that big, bold voice. His style has earned him a new side gig as the spokesperson for Andrew Charles’ rock-inspired clothing. Tyler recently chatted with fashion trade Women’s Wear Daily about his latest foray into fashion, his love of shopping and his role on ‘American Idol.’
We know, shopping and fashion aren’t macho, but it’s served Tyler well through the years. It’s also another side of his rock ‘n’ roll personality. He revealed that his girlfriend Erin Brady is playing the role of stylist for him this year. “She knows everything that I love so we find stuff out of my closet, and we put pieces together that are so back in,” the rocker said. “Everything from my closet is from 30 years ago, so it’s like a treasure trove. It’s full of so much great stuff. Every time I go through it, it’s like, ‘No, wait, what’s this?’” Opening ‘Pandora’s Box,’ so to speak.
Tyler’s love of shopping is very un-dude-like, but Tyler, who said the band has done 33 tours since 1970, is in his element when picking out clothes. He also designed plenty of his tour wear.
“I designed most of the stage clothes,” he admitted. “When you’re out shopping in Paraguay, you’re going to come home with some ostrich boots and a black-and-white checkered hat and some bolos they caught the ostrich with.” Shopping in Paraguay is better than taking a tumble in the shower while suffering from dehydration due to food poisoning, no?
As for ‘Idol’ and how it mines talent, Tyler understands that things have changed, but misses the olden days when rock was more organic and born in the live setting. He said, “I miss clubs. It was my era. But it’s a new era. They do come out of the woodwork. There are those who are homegrown. Out of 10,000, there’s 100 who are really good.”
Perhaps Erin Brady can play stylist to the next crop of ‘Idol’ hopefuls, as well!

The American Idol 2012 premiere is only one day away now, and host Ryan Seacrest couldn’t be more excited.
Seacrest says there was “a special energy, an electricity” on the road this year. He goes on to tease that there are some very talented people coming up during the audition episodes.
So what does the American Idol host think of the judges?
“The judges … they work so well as a team, yet they’re obviously incredible individuals,” Seacrest said. “I think because they’re so different indivdually, they come together to create the perfect team.”

Steven Tyler and his mouth are back for American Idol 2012 and just like last season we should be expecting some great one liners. Considering he’s been around since the Dead Sea was just the Sick Sea we’re sure he’s had plenty of time to compile some zingers. Can’t wait to see what he delivers tomorrow night.
